In “La Maschera del Tempo” the “Teatro Verde” on the Island of San Giorgio in Venice serves as the backdrop for a utopian vision of the future where nature has reclaimed its rightful place, harmonizing with high-definition digital humans adorned in 3D sartorial creations inspired by the costumes of legendary performers of the past.

The film’s production seamlessly merges archival materials from the Institute for Theater and Opera of Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice with cutting-edge Generative AI technologies. Through these resources, the filmmakers glean insights into the historical performances held at Teatro Verde, ranging from timeless Greek tragedies like Ariadne and Pasiphae to mythologies and religious motifs deeply rooted in Neapolitan culture.

This endeavor underscores the unmatched potential of digitization practices, not only in preserving and showcasing heritage but also in catalyzing the creation of innovative new works. The overarching goal of the project is to breathe life into one of Venice’s most enchanting theaters, marrying tradition with contemporary creativity and technological advancements.
